Since 2004, Top Shelf Energy has expanded our project footprint across Canada, from BC to Saskatchewan, and into northern USA. Ian Learmonth C.E.T.

MANAGING DIRECTOR

As Managing Director, Ian oversees day-to-day activities and expertly aligns the successful execution of Top Shelf’s corporate vision. As a second-generation family owner, his in-depth understanding of the significant role an integrated general contractor provides enables our team to uniquely deliver value-add solutions that make chaotic projects feel easy.

With over 20 years of industry experience, Ian brings a unique perspective with a construction-based mentality he developed working as a construction coordinator and project manager. Utilizing his expertise gained working in the field as a pipefitter, he apprehends how the decisions made throughout the design and planning phases can impact daily construction activities in granular detail. Ian’s holistic view of projects has enabled Top Shelf to develop projects in excess of $1 Billion and execute projects over $250 Million in capital spend while providing solutions that save our clients time and money without compromising safety or quality.

MANAGING DIRECTOR

As Director of Safety, Stacey has been invaluable in promoting and improving our internal safety culture as well as for our clients and their contractors. Utilizing her ability to listen and connect with all levels of personnel, from the field to corporate workforces, Stacey has been instrumental in ensuring the safety of others during each aspect of a project, from project planning through construction.

Stacey started her career in Saskatchewan 12 years ago as a safety advisor and has quickly progressed her career by keeping the safety of others as her #1 priority. From the bitter cold in Canadian winters, to the summer heat in Florida, Stacey has walked the ROWs and knows first hand the risks in the field and how to prevent accidents. Her experience, coupled with her approachability and concern for others, has made her not only an essential part of our team, but also influential in achieving success for our clients.

Keith Learmonth

DIRECTOR OF PROJECTS

As the founder of Top Shelf, Keith has been instrumental in the evolution of the company’s ongoing success. Building the company from the ground up, Keith distilled the value of building long-term, positive relationships with our clients as the backbone of Top Shelf’s success.

With 31+ years in pipeline experience throughout Canada and USA, and starting his career as a construction estimator, Keith is able to leverage his vast depth of knowledge to provide unique solutions to project hurdles. This experience, paired with his attitude and work ethic, has enabled Top Shelf’s clients to achieve successful project outcomes, as his approach to projects revolves around never being complacent or relying on cookie-cutter solutions.

As the Manager of Design and Drafting, Jim overseas the day-to-day activities of the Top Shelf Design and Drafting team. Jim has a “hands-on” approach with the team, and he is fully involved in the designs that Top Shelf is involved with. With over 35 years’ experience in major projects in Canada, the US and Europe, Jim brings invaluable experience to the team. Jim has worked on projects with TICs ranging from $100 Million to $10 Billion for clients such as Shell, CNRL, Syncrude, Statoil, Husky, Chevron, BP, Conoco Philips and Marathon.

Projects include Greenfield and Brownfield Oilsands Facilities, Hydrotreaters, Compressor buildings, Utilities Plants, SAGD facilities, Extraction Plants, Renewable Diesel conversions, Pump stations and Trap sites. He has extensive experience working with fabricators and module shops in Alberta and leverages that experience to ensure that Top Shelf’s designs are construction friendly to ensure efficient and error free fabrication and construction.

Jim also works closely with client operations and maintenance teams during the design process to design a plant which is “operator friendly” through the plant life-cycle. The Design and Drafting Team at Top Shelf utilizes the latest technology to enable the most cost-effective solutions for our clients. These include Autodesk AutoCad, Plant 3D, ReCap and Navisworks software and, if required, laser scanning of existing facilities.

Peter Nazarewycz P.Eng.

SR. ENGINEER

As Sr. Engineer and the Responsible Member for APEGA, Peter has been one of the key members in developing the Top Shelf Energy Engineering Department as well as providing support and solutions to tackle complex technical problems and contractual interpretations in order to execute projects on time and within budget.

Peter started his career 12 years ago as a Mechanical Package E.I.T., where he learned to coordinate within multi-disciplinary teams and pick up technical skills from various disciplines. He became familiar with major engineering codes and standards, such as ASME B31.3, ASME VIII, CSA Z662, and various API tank/pump/compressor standards. The next 10 years he would spend developing his mechanical technical knowledge and Project execution skills in the realm of processing facilities and pipeline design and construction within Alberta, BC, and Australia. Peter joined the Top Shelf team 2 years ago and has furthered his engineering knowledge while showing his capacity and eagerness to learn, adapt, and apply his knowledge. Top Shelf benefits from his personability, accountability, and natural sense of initiative.

SR. ENGINEER

Adam is a multi-skilled pipeline engineer who provides owner/operator and engineering companies with technical support for operations, maintenance and capital projects. He has 18 years experience in flow assurance, pipeline, hydraulics, project engineering, pipeline and facility design, fitness-for-service assessments, asset integrity management, NDE and in-line inspection, regulatory compliance and predictive analytics.

He performs complex hydraulic analyses utilizing synergi pipeline simulator (SPS), uses promax, pipelinestudio and pipeflo software, ensures adequate operating procedures and overpressure protection systems are in place, incorporates risk-based design and industry best practices on new pipelines.

He has managed facility and pipeline inspection programs utilizing multiple non-destructive examination (NDE) technologies, conducted engineering assessments on class location changes, ground movement
Impacting assets and anomalies requiring innovative repair/mitigation strategies and led detailed pipeline and facility risk assessments involving significant data. He ensures regulatory compliance with provincial/state and federal pipeline regulators: preparing for, attending and responding to audits and information requests as well as performing required self-assessments. He is comfortable leading meetings and delivering presentations to diverse stakeholder groups. He has familiarity and strong working relationships with most commonly used engineering service providers and pipeline integrity contractors in Western Canada.

Ian Conn, CPA

Financial Controller

As Financial Controller, Ian Conn is a CPA with over 8 years experience holding the designation in Alberta, Ontario and Bermuda. Having been at Top Shelf for over a year, Ian has direct responsibility for Finance and Accounting, Cost Controls, Human Resources, Estimating, and the Administration team. Ian’s career started in Oil & Gas in Calgary in the early 2000s, and he’s since worked in Oil & Gas, Construction, IT, and International Business after graduating from the University of Calgary.

Ian has worked on some of the biggest Oil & Gas installations in Canada including Kearl Lake & Albian Sands. With over ten years of supervisory experience (eight as a Financial Controller for businesses in Canada), the US and Bermuda, Ian brings his unique client-focused, growth-oriented management philosophy to Top Shelf’s project offerings.

His experience leading smaller teams hands on compliments his many years in project accounting, procurement, and project controls, and gives him the ability to contribute effectively on projects of all sizes.
